Berlin 2018 (Better late than never?)

So I’ll admit these took a little longer to publish than I’d like (18 months to be precise). After coming back from the trip I was never quite happy with the images, I couldn’t select enough that I liked, I wasn’t quite happy with the edit etc etc. So they were just left and were never shared.

There’s probably a few reasons why I never posted them but the main reason, I believe is something all creatives face, it’s the feeling of them not being ‘good enough’, which is something I definitely struggle with and often find myself not quite happy with my work.

During this current lockdown period however I have been making the conscious effort to go back through old shoots and olds sets of images and re-editing them! I feel like over the last year or so my creative style has really developed and I’ve found myself looking at images that I’ve previously discarded and seeing them in a different way, with a different crop, a different tone etc etc and realising they are good, they are ‘good enough’.

So if anything good is to come out of this terrible time, for me personally it’s that I’ve been able to have this time to reflect, to look at old work and evaluate it with different and more developed eyes, and also to re-evaluate and figure out where I want to take my work in the future! I want to make an effort from now on to take my time when looking at new shoot, and not discarding it straight away but to try and change the direction I take the images in, to edit them differently to how I initially imagined, or to present them in a way I haven’t done before.

Now a little about the trip...

I really enjoyed Berlin, there’s just something about it that really intrigued me, there was just this really chilled vibe that you don’t get in a lot of cities, everything seemed to be going at a slower pace than in places like London, people weren’t rushing everywhere, everyone just seemed more relaxed. Despite this it still felt like there was a lot going and I really enjoyed the art and architecture in particular…oh and of course the beer! I was there for a photography event, so was only there for a few days and didn’t get to explore as much as I’d like, but hope to go back soon and spend a bit more time taking in everything the city has to offer.
